In May 2017, severe floods and landslides hit central and southern Sri Lanka, displacing over 83,200 people, with 194 confirmed deaths and 99 missing.

On May 26, Blue Sky Rescue (BSR) launched an emergency humanitarian mission to support flood relief efforts. Despite unstable weather, alternating between intense heat and heavy rain, BSR worked tirelessly in affected areas like Ayagama, clearing debris and preventing the spread of disease. The close cooperation with the Sri Lankan government, including meetings with President Sirisena and top officials, ensured a well-coordinated response.
The Sri Lankan government expressed deep trust and support for BSR’s dedication, highlighting the strong collaboration between BSR and local authorities throughout the mission.
